THE LESSER CELANDINE

The sight of this cheerful little weed transports me directly back to 1949 & Hoe Place School. It was run by (see extra) Mr Philip Sinker - the alpha male sitting right centre between Joan, his 34 year old wife & Soo, his 94 year old mother.

Think of the Rev. Ian Paisley & give him an Oxford accent... He ruled with a loud voice & a knobbly bamboo cane which he wasn't afraid to use. OK - he was a tyrant - BUT he was a really great teacher - took us kids through the Surrey woods identifying all the wild flowers, birds, creepies & crawlies.
