Belfast City Hall
Early start (supposedly) for the self-guided city centre tour today. We finished our breakfast by 10 and left at 1030 for the city hall. It was indeed one of the nicest exterior city halls i have seen. We then went to Belfast Waterfront Hall - a conference and entertainment centre. There seemed to be no event today as the lobby was empty. St George's Market was next which was a stark contrast to the Waterfront Hall. It was buzzing with people. Food, live music, crafts and people filled the building. I was happy to have sampled a few cheeses and dips. Just like old times in Leamington Spa Food and Drink Festival. The Crown Liquor Saloon was a thing of beauty. The interior boasts of carved ceilings and featured "snugs", private booths which were said to be used by high-profiled guests in the past for private meet-ups. Just across the street were the Europe Belfast (a hotel) and Belfast Grand Opera. Last stop in the walk was Linen Hall Library just in front of the city hall. The library was a gem in the middle of the city. I tried to locate the CS Lewis collection but i couldnt find it. I didnt bother asking the staff for it as well since we were pretty hungry by that time. We marched back to St George's Market and ordered the paella that we spotted earlier. After lunch we were able to join the 2pm free city hall tour. The inside of the building was as beautiful as the outside.
