Strayed giant?
Beside the Glen Massan road, between road and river, there is a huge giant redwood which towers above all the other tall trees both on the river bank and in Benmore Gardens on the other side of the road. It is clearly a relative of the giant trees in the avenue at the entrance to the Gardens, probably half a mile away as the crow flies. Did a crow indeed fly one day a hundred years ago and deposit the necessary seed beside the water?
Whatever its genesis, it was beautifully lit in the late afternoon sun. It's too tall ever to get an idea of how imposing it is without some superior kind of lens, so we'll make do with a close-up of the soft red bark and the soft green moss ...
