Birded Out!

Sister woke me at 6.30 to say she was off! She had washed, dressed, had breakfast and packed the car! She does not like traffic on the motorway! Having waved her off I opened the newbies and then my friends I  returned home via the river to see if it was high as there had been flood warnings. It was high but no risk of flooding and the swans and ducks seemed well happy at their easier access to land! Then it was home  for espresso and a quiet day. It was not to be!
Facebook message saying estelle was neither eating nor drinking and was stumbling around and falling over. Since the forecast heavy rain had not materialised and seemed unlikely to do so I grabbed Henrietta and Isabella and took them up to the allotment! The other girls ignored them mostly, but they were spooked and ran for the fence - and Henrietta broke through it! Manic chase before catching her and then I spent an hour putting the old fence round the electric fence which I had freed from the swathes of grass - soooo pleased I had done that! By the time I had finished they had both gone into the smaller spare coop, and there they stayed except for brief  reconnoiters out. Only a couple of the other girls gave them any attention, and as they are small they can run really fast away from them and make the others look like lumbering giants! Whilst i waited to make sure there wasn't going to be another escape or major hen pecking, I pruned my raspberries and did another dandelion flower picking sweep! Still no rain but it was incredibly windy!
Finally home again to rest with Estelle who I had put in the cat carrier as soon as the others had been released.
Once home Estelle actually ate an egg and drank some water, but stayed in the carrier and was having difficulty locating the food and water right in front of her - kept miss pecking. Just as i was thinking of having a snooze Nellie of the Woods dropped in! So I fed her cake and tea and we caught up on each others news! After she left I sent a message to the coop members about the newbies, and a reminder to open early due to the lighter mornings and to maintain high standards of hygiene - an ex member once left as he said my messages were passive aggressive!! I think I just informed them politely of  the self evident practices they were obviously  unable to grasp!
So finally back to the allotment and to my relief newbies still in the plot! Once all the others had retired for the night I plucked them from the smaller coop where they had lain an egg each, and put them in with the big girls! I waited and then checked on them - Henrietta was snuggled up to Snowdrop and Nyla and Isabella was on the perch! Happiness reigns! I'm hoping the rain hits us tomorrow after I have opened the coop or I will have a marathon hen  pedicure session with colourful Mai and I think even I have had my fill of birds over the last few days!!
