U.S.S. Cairo
Went to the state of Mississippi to visit our youngest daughter, and had a chance to visit a famous battle site...the Battle of Vicksburg. Located on the Mississippi River, this was a strategic supply line for both sides, during the American Civil war. It also marks the first time a ship was sunk by a torpedo. They were able to surface what was left of the ship in the 1960's, and its now a very popular tourist attraction. This is the front (top deck) section.
