Backing up!!

Spent the day sorting out i cloud on my ipad and on the PC.  My idea was to use the i cloud to back up my photos when we are on holiday.  The two are now connected but at the last attempt when the photos, from the ipad,had been backed up on the i cloud and were then removed from the ipad they also disappeared from the i cloud!  Which is no good whatever for what I want to do!!!    (Gritted teeth!)

If anyone has any bright ideas please, please share!
