Hilda ran the Abbey
Caedmon wrote the songs
Till the Vikings came to town  
And said that’s just plain wrong.


They knocked it down
And didn't look back 
Left Hilda homeless
Gave Caedmon the sack.


Normans built it spanking new
Not sure exactly when
But no more women got to stay
They built it just for men.

Perfect weather for roaming around the town.
