Down to the river

They call it Lands End Road, and not surprisingly the road goes down to the river and a deserted slipway, and the only evidence of use I saw today was as a turning space for cars which had ventured down the road, either by design or accident.
This Lands End Road is in central Hampshire, at Old Bursledon, and leads to the Hamble River — a mecca for sailing and some of the sleekest yachts you'll find in Solent sailing waters.
As every sailing enthusiast knows, Hamble is at the centre of the yachting world and this stretch of the Hamble immortalised by the 1980s BBC television soap opera Howard's Way which depicted life on the water.
The boatyard at the centre of the TV show dates back centuries and has its place in history when wooden battle ships were built here in the 16th century for Henry V111's fleet.
Today, the river is a mecca for all types of leisure sailing although perhaps with not quite the same drama as reflected in the TV series.
