Robert Smail's Printing Works
Backblipped for Thursday
Back in the Borders as follow-up to previous visits we stopped in Innerleithen for lunch, after which we realised that, as the Robert Smail's Printing Works was actually open, and we have never been, and we are National Trust members and get in free, and we have time, we ought to take the opportunity to visit.
So we did and it was brilliant.
This is Gen in the caseroom explaining how the type is arranged in the different compartments with capitals in the top trays (Upper Case) and small letters in the bottom (Lower Case), in fact so many expressions in common usage come from the printing world.
This is a working museum, continuing to use hand-set typeface, printing on any of their five presses. At present they are busy printing their 2013 calendars.
