Persistence

I had a lovely day, today. I got up and recorded the radio show* while Dan and Abi were still snoozing before toasting them bagels for breakfast (which is torture when I'm low-carbing).

Abi went back to her mum's early in the afternoon to do some art homework so Dan and I went for a walk down to Underley and then along the path by the river - where I took this photo - to Devil's Bridge and he had some lunch from the snack van. It's been there for as long as I can remember and, contrary to what you might expect, the food is really good.

In the evening, I drove down to Chorley and went for a drink with Dom, who apart from being a lovely fellow, is an inspiration to me. We chatted a bit about writing and I was talking about how sometimes I only have a very rough idea of what I'm going to talk about when I take the daily photo for this blog. I showed him today's picture and he immediately said "Persistence!".

And I shouldn't have been surprised because he is a very persistent fellow. I said recently - possibly on here - that most of my heroes are friends of mine and Dom certainly qualifies. His hard work at developing his writing and his stories, plus his willingness get up in front of people (which, I think, might not come naturally to him) to promote himself and his work is a lesson in how success needs to be earned rather than sitting around waiting for something to happen.

And it was funny because he is such a lovely gentle chap but as soon as I suggested that the reason that I've never written my novel was down to a lack of time, he abruptly dismissed the excuse out of hand. And he's right, of course.
