Maeve Waited Patiently
Mainly bright, with occasional showers.
We made the trip North up the A83 through Tarbert and Lochgilphead to Kilmartin Glen, which is a place we have often visited when we have spent holidays in mid Argyll. About 60 miles. Took us about 70 mins.
We parked at the car park near the Nether Largie standing stones and cairn and had a walk with Maeve the Deerhound across past the stones to Temple Wood and up the main path which runs along the line of the linear cemetery of cairns towards Kilmartin village before returning by the same route. Maeve waited patiently while I went to help Apothecary7 with the heavy hatch which covers the entrance to the burial cist in the mid cairn.
We took the car up to the village and had some lunch at the Kilmartin Museum cafe.
Later we went back South to Campbeltown.
Just after Tarbert the road crosses the Kintrye peninsula from its route along Loch Fyne and then follows the West coast South. We passed Kennacraig where the ferry leaves for Islay, then Tayinloan where the little passenger ferry goes to Gigha. We looked out to the islands of Gigha, Jura, and Islay as we made our way down the coast with its rugged rocks, sandy beaches, and the far away horizon.
On the drive South I remarked to Apothecary7 that we didn't have to go over that mental dividing line from Glen Ogle and down the steep hill to Loch Earn and reach the East. We were going home ... in the West. We had Runrig (Amazing Things) on the car sound system which is, for us, appropriate. It was not an insignificant moment.
