Lead baptism font

This is the lead baptism font in the Lady St Mary Church in Wareham, Dorset.

It is made of lead and is only one of 30 lead fonts in existence in the UK.

Dating from the 11th century it is the only hexagonal lead font.
The six sides each have two figures on them, assumed to be the 12 apostles.

The base of Purbeck marble is octagonal and was added a century later.

The Extra photos show an inside view plus one of the figures.

The figures were literally DEFACED during the English Civil War, Oliver Cromwell being stationed nearby
