18 months ago when we discovered a mostly-fallen-over tree under the brambles we (a) initially thought it was an apple, and (b) thought it was essentially dead, having about a dozen leaves to it's name.  It's saving grace was the two huge bunches of mistletoe growing on it.

This year it's decided to flower.  OK, so that's not an apple then; nor entirely dead.
