Camera woman at work!
We've had such a brilliant time so far.
The cottage is lovely, with views across to Ireland. Portpatrick is just the same as I recall from 4 years ago.
Last night, we arrived just after 8pm; dumped the bags and walked down the cliff into the village. We had a few beers then got a haggis pizza to share on the harbour side before heading back up to home.
This morning, after a lie in and breakfast, we visited the Galloway Forest Park. There were a few different trails to follow, so we took the one which led to the Bruntis Loch.
This is the blip for today (courtesy of Mr A).
I was taking a shot of the daffs, with the loch blurred in the background. I will upload this (and all the other photos I've taken) to Flickr once we are home.
It was quite warm walking round, so once we got back to the car park, we dumped our jackets and went to sit in the wildlife hide for a bit. There we watched the red squirrels, woodpecker and countless little birds. It was brilliant until some screaming kids came along and frightened them all away!. Mr A has always wanted to see a red squirrel, so he was happy.
We noticed that they are far cleverer than our greys at home. For a start, they lifted the lid on the nut box, rather than gnawing a hole in it like ours did.
They also spent all their time eating, rather than burying the nuts.
All that walking made us hungry, so we took the car back home and walked into the village for fish and chips. They were delicious, another couple seated nearby complained we had made them hungry!
The weather is set to turn tomorrow, so we made the decision to walk the Southern Upland Way (which leads from our cottage down to a little beach that Mr A had spotted on Google Earth before we came away) while it was still dry and bright. It also helped to burn off some calories from the fish & chips!
The walk took us along a coastal path, down to the beach. Although it was nice to have the whole beach to ourselves, we were appalled by the amount of rubbish that was dumped there including a dead penguin!)
We've walked just over 6 miles today (according to my pedometer; 13,500 steps), so I think we've earned some liquid refreshments this evening. So that's another walk down (& back up) the cliff.
Cheers blipmates :-)
