Marriage Chamber Amsterdam City Hall

The Marriage Chamber was opened in the then Amsterdam City Hall, decorated with murals and stained glass in the Jugenstil style, by Chris Lebeau. The paintings and glass depict a man and women in different stages of life - first single, then engaged and then betrothed in these stained glass panels.

During the Nazi occupation the Germans coverd up the artwork as decadenmt. Lebeau who was Jewish was arrested and taken to Dachau where he died.

The Amsterdam City Hall is now a Hotel, where marriages still take place.
