'A Gala for St. George'
What a great evening at Royal Albert Hall......my Birthday gift from my daughter Kelly and son-in-law Martin. My first ever visit here...what a wonderful experience. Presented by the actor Kevin Whately an amazing evening of music provided by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Choral Society, guest singer Laura Wright..all superbly led by conductor Anthony Inglis. The atmosphere was great, we all waved our flags and at the end, hundreds of balloons came down. The noise of them being popped was hilarious.
My favourite pieces of the night were 'Zadok the Priest', 'Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis', 'Nimrod from Enigma Variations' and '633 Squadron Theme'. A lively ending to the Gala with 'White Cliffs of Dover' (did you know that Dame Vera Lynn is now 99 years young)' Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Pomp and Circumstance March No.1...Pete and I had a wonderful day!
A very full day, train up to London, booking into hotel in South Kensington, late lunch, walking up to Royal Albert Hall to check our timings for the evening, walking through Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park etc...walking back to hotel. Changing for the evening..then walking back to Royal Albert Hall..,,and of course the walk back after the Gala...wondering how many steps we walked? The weather has been good and tomorrow has an even better forecast.
