Orthodox MayDay

Previously when Orthodox Easter has fallen on 1st May (and St George is postponed from 23rd April) ProtoMaia has been recognised on Monday 9th May. This year however is different. Presumably because of the Greek economic crisis (which is suspiciously no longer newsworthy) the Minister for Employment has decreed (rather late in the day it seems) that ProtoMaia will fall on Tuesday 3rd May. I imagine that it is far better for the Greek economy as a whole to have one huge five-day bank holiday than it is to have what would effectively have been three consecutive four-day weeks. I can see his point.

So, besides welcoming our first Summer guest to the cottage, and getting her shopping in before her arrival, the scanner and I have been dancing around the MayPole in true English tradition.
