This is, almost, one of those, I'd guess.

I/we have a ruddy great hoard/horde (Both correct) of antediluvian books. Box by box I'm letting a local Book dealer see them, he returns any deemed past the bucket (Beyond the pale pail?).
This, obviously, was one of them.
I read the Title/Author and was forced to wonder if he was related to the venerable:-
Bilbo Baggins.
