A Pilgrims Progress

Mum had a fall last week. She is OK - to and out of A&E quickly - but as I had leave booked (because we were going down to my Mum in Laws, but moved that forward when she had a fall) I decided to drive down to see how the folks are today.

A long time on the road. So listening to a lot of radio, which was dominated - all day - by Leicester FC winning the Premier League after the Spurs/Chelsea draw yesterday. The Today Programme on Radio 4 was from Leicester. Women's Hour spent a lot of time talking football. Eddie Mair and PM was focussed on Leicester. Simon Mayo's Drive-time Show on Radio 2 featured tracks which linked to Leicester's achievement. If Radio 3 could have found an excuse they would have featured Leicester. It's a great story.

The blip - Sharpenhoe Clappers, viewed from the edge of Harlington. It is a Beech hanger, sitting atop a chalk ridge, the north east extremity of the Chiltern Hills. Oil seed rape is brightening up the countryside everywhere. Clappers is a local name for rabbit burrows.

This part of Bedfordshire is John Bunyan territory. I had parked by a blue plaque, which told me that he used an oak tree at the end of the field as a natural pulpit from which to preach. Before he was locked up in Bedford goal, where he wrote Pilgrims Progress.
