8 Mile Lake stream

This afternoon we decided to go up to the intake at the 6 Mile walkway to get a photo for today's blip. When we got to the carpark, low and behold, Kiwilizzie's car was there - she and presumably TeeJay had bet us to it!

So change of plans - up the road we went further to the 8 Mile Lake walkway (I don't know where they get these names from!). On the signpost it said 1 hour to do 2 kilometres - I thought that must be return. So off we headed. It is not a well used track, and was very swampy, steep, narrow (to the extent of having to walk right along the cliff edge) and we had to climb over several lots of tree trunks and branches that had fallen over, probably during the recent floods. At times I wished I was Bear Grylls!

We eventually got to the end of the track, which led us to the lake. However, we were quite disappointed at what we could see - a dirty looking lake with a few ducks on it, and we couldn't even get to the edge of the lake due to all the bush surrounding it.

So we abandoned that idea, and started the return trip home. On the way to the Lake, we were following the stream most of the way up, so on our return trip back, we stopped to take some lovely photos of the small waterfalls amongst the beautiful bush. It was so nice hearing the rush of the water in the stream, and the singing of the native birds in the bush.

By the time we got back to the entrance of the track, the sun had gone down - and it was 5.18pm - we had been in the bush for two hours!

We took 195 photo's on our walk, and this one is about the only one that was worth blipping.

Many thanks for all your kind comments on yesterday's blip. It made spotlight, and wouldn't have done that without your input. You are all so great!
