Living quarters & stables

Back to sunny weather today, back to the field. This colony of Lasius ants nicely keeps its items separated: their ‘cattle’ (the aphids on the leaf in the right lower corner) is kept separately from their babies  (the larvae in the middle). While many nests are still asleep, some, like this one, are already in full swing!
