What A Dreich Day
But I suppose if there was no rain and dreichness there would be no lakes in the Lake District (although there is actually only 1 lake).
We found this place in Kendal - unfortunately it was shut.
I loved the hidden gem of the old Alms Houses tucked off the High Street. The local historical association must have had a great time researching the history of all the old yards and vennels - they all seem to have a plaque with the story of their history.
After leaving Kendal the sat-nav did its usual and took us on a magical mystery tour which took us down silly narrow roads where an inordinate number of people had no idea of the width of their vehicles or how to use passing places ... or were just too damned arrogant/stupid to use them.
Very annoying on roads like this.
I don't blame the cows for staying in their 2 storey house - it was bucketing when I took this..
Wryenose Pass was steep - but nothing compared to Hardnott Pass!
It was maybe just as well we couldn't see too much - SWMBO was a bit nervous as it was when the road disappeared cresting a couple of rises.
The best view we got was on the way down....
The benches looking out over the estuary at Ravenglass were nice - but
the rain soaked view wasn't as good as it could be.
The bluebells were out in force in the mossy, very wet woods on route to the old - very low beamed - Farmers Arms Inn at Spark Bridge that we spent the night in.
A place full of character and with great food.
