Tantallon Castle
Seen from the beach at Seacliff, East Lothian, this is the remains of a once mighty castle on cliffs above the Firth of Forth.
Oliver Cromwell apparently took exception to the fact that it was successfully used as a guerilla base against him in his attempt to conquer Scotland.
He sent an army of 3000 men and artillery and reduced it to the ruin that we see today.
More recently the cliffs were used in WW2 as a radar installation and the smaller buildings to the right of the castle were used for this purpose.
Better bigger, I think.
My sister and her husband came to visit this morning, the first time they have seen Dunbar (or our house for that matter).
Euphling went off on another adventure. After returning from 10 days at Auntie Mary's house in Lyon, France on Thursday, he has now gone to C-Kidettes camp for a week of doing things with boats.
So Euphemia and I took a flask of coffee to the beach. Very Derby and Joan!
The photo was taken with Bass Rock two miles out, behind and to the right of me.
