Sunny Sunday Afternoon
On a very warm Sunday afternoon, our house was a hive of activity. G was upstairs in the spare room, window wide open, sounds turned up loud, hanging wallpaper. I was down on the patio planting a new little apple tree in a humungously large container. Rocky was lying on the grass, blissing out!
It's been an amazingly busy week. G had to drive to Leeds for a sales meeting on Wednesday, stay overnight and then drive back up after the meeting on Thursday to make sure he got home in time to vote (having been too late in applying for the proxy vote).
I fitted in delivering SNP supporter letters around working, then was on Polling duty, getting voters out, and then was at the count to watch the results coming in.
Friday was the day I went to my first - and possibly last - NOS (National Osteoporosis Society ) group meeting. It was a bit emotional for me, and I came away with very mixed feelings - first of all I felt guilty because I am obviously so much better (in a health way) than many of the other ladies attending. However, I also felt terrified that perhaps I was looking at myself in 10 or 20 years?
Frighteningly, a couple of the ladies I spoke with were diagnosed when they were very much younger than me - two of them actually pre-menopause. I've decided to give up my resistance to taking drugs - I'm just going to do what the specialist nurse recommends, and hope for the best (but with my fingers crossed behind my back, in a cheeky 'still hoping to carry on exactly as normal' way).
Think this may be a new crusade for me; I mean, who REALLY knew that 1 in 2 women would end up with noticeable loss of bone density after 50? And just as worrying, 1 in 5 men. Now, that is surely news to most of us?
Hoping this week will zip in very quickly, and it will soon be weekend gardening time again. Happy Monday tomorrow Blippers.
