Shanghaied in Shanghai
We arrived here eventually on a flight on Bunged-up-Airways, or that's what it felt like with my cold. I thought my head might explode or my eardrums or something. One bright spot was that we got marginally upgraded, to the no man's middle ground between business and cattle where you are pathetically grateful for the extra couple of inches legroom. It reminded me of the ' I look down on him' sketch. This was apparently on account of LooseCanon being tall! I have instructed him when we fly in future to draw himself up to his full height, wear shoe raises vertical stripes and a bouffant hair do, to see if it works again. Any extra space is worth having.
If you look up the meaning of being Shanghaied it's complicated and has to do with sailors , but basically means being ripped off. Actually we haven't been yet! unless you count £2.50 for a small bottle of water from the mini bar. We have shelled out quite a lot to go to a show tonight so we're looking forward to that.
We've been looking round temples and Jade Buddhas this morning and then walked on the Bund ( the Waterfront ) to admire the tall buildings of the financial district opposite. Then we took a tourist tunnel ride over to get a bit closer. The buildings are truly impressive, and not too many cranes in sight either.
This is the imaginatively named Shanghai tower.
Extra. View of the same buildings from the Bund .
