Shining Crane's-bill
My first of three days teaching a unit on the National Vegetation Classification to twenty-seven Masters students at Leeds University. As you can imagine there was little time for photography during a very busy day of lectures and fieldwork. This year I've elected to commute, and ended up changing at Doncaster on the way home. My connection was delayed, giving me time to admire the profuse growth of shining crane's-bill on this section of disused track. Closer examination of the area also revealed a well-grown plant of smooth cat's-ear, a rare species in the UK, and only the tenth ever record in south-west Yorkshire!
