St. Louis - City Museum
We visited the incredible City Museum today on our last full day in St. Louis. This old shoe factory is difficult to describe. Wikipedia says the museum bills itself as an eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel. What that description fails to mention is that in this museum everything is touchable. In fact, it seems the whole idea of the museum is to get kids and adults to climb on, in and around the many fanciful exhibits, most of which are constructed from reclaimed materials. This photo shows part of the outside area called MonstroCity. If you look close, you can see almost a dozen people crawling around various parts of the structure (check out the three who are seemingly suspended between the brick building on the right and the cone shaped structure on the left). Inside are a number of multistory slides, including two that drop ten floors down old spiral shoe shoots, caves, a full-size, walk-through whale, all connected by numerous crawl spaces and tunnels.
