tempus fugit

By ceridwen

Long wait!

It's 80 years since the last (real) passengers boarded a train here at Rosebush* in the Preseli hills of Pembrokeshire. The tiny loop line was constructed for the purpose of taking away the slates that were quarried out of the mountain side; they were of poor quality but used to roof the Houses of Parliament nonetheless...
The old quarries remain, their sharp contours cushioned by vegetation now, and the isolated community sits out the lonely winter months waiting for tourists to visit its Tin Tavern and its cheese farm and maybe pick whinberries among the pits, spoil heaps and faded memories.

* The name is anglicized from the Welsh Rhos Bwlch meaning 'moorland gap'.

(Busy this week so short of time for Blip - apologies.)
