ken...
...is a traditional Japanese barber and has a gorgeous little barber's shop 'Samurai Barber' tucked between a fish and chip shop and curry takeaway in suburban Perth.
I've passed it many a time on the trek into the city and today finally veered off the highway, parked and wandered in.
Recently relocated, his customers have followed him and it was standing room only with patient lads waiting and others more than willing to come back in an hour for their turn (and this is not exactly walk by and pop in country).
Trained in Tokyo he wields an array of scissors (the lower blade stays put while the upper flashes like fire...extra) and cut throat razors from a pouch bulging with tools of his trade (extra).
Three years for his barber's license and another three as a teacher..he is well skilled and a delight to observe, his hands craft with every movement.
Each hair cut is finished off with a neck shave, shaving soap dabbed from a badger bristle brush and shaved clean by a stropped sharp cut throat AND for those really keen a face shave is available.
I am tempted to return and have the still bristly noggin well and truly smoothed!
And if the shop name 'Samurai Barber' isn't inviting enough who could resist 'Who knows more about cutting than Samurai?' blazoned across the shop front.
Brilliant.
Thank you Ken.
