This Is England...

...really? Then it's not my England. I had a business meeting in Canary Wharf today; the first time I've ever visited this particular Cathedral of Capitalism. My clients were great but I'm in no hurry to go back. This place meets every horrible soulless capitalist cliché you might imagine; stark glass and steel skyscrapers, marble pavements, men in sunglasses and hi-vis vests who have no obvious function but nevertheless convey menace, chilly impersonality, sharp-suited barrow-boys barking into mobiles... it goes on.

I'll take the Lake District over Warwickshire most days, but I'll take Warwickshire over Docklands any day. Brrr.
