Because Lamium album, or white dead nettle is, it seems, completely unrelated to the stinging nettle (different plant family). Well that's a relief.
What else have I managed to dig up about it? Apparently it's good for treating scrofula (so-called 'King's Evil') and Geoffrey Grigson says its most common country name is Adam-and-Eve-in-the-Bower because if you turn the plant upside down and look under the flower lip the black and gold stamens look like 2 people lying side by side.
Don't lots of couples do that? :/
Okay, having got that out of the way, I'll just say this is my entry for today's FlowerFriday. Not a glamorous bloom, nor on the suggested theme of 'glass' I'm afraid (that's water behind it), but I thought it was quietly really beautiful and loved its downy off-white flowers.
That's me for today. Thanks so much to BikerBear for continuing so faithfully to host this challenge.
Hope Friday's treated you kindly. Have a great weekend xx
