on any standing tree

have you ever seen such a thing?

a bee clinging to tree like this?

actually as i followed his progression - it went something like this - scoot a little upwards, stop - scratch his legs against the tree bark - inch up the tree a tiny bit, stop - scratch his legs against the tree bark - he did this process about 4 times - then rested momentarily before glancing around - seemed rather satisfied with everything and buzzed off - it was the most intriguing behavior of a bee - i have ever witnessed

there was nothing special about this particular tree - little buds had not yet come into full bloom - and there was no sign of a hive anywhere - there were a couple of other bees flitting about - but they paid him no never mind - so i was just stumped as to what exactly - he was up to - perhaps he was aware i was watching him - and knew i needed to have...
