By Himself

By Himself

Emerging...

... From a two storey cairn on the island of Rousay which is rich in archaeology from the Neolithic to Iron Age, Pictish and Viking times.
A short ferry crossing from Tingwall and then bikes along the south coast of the island, visiting cairns (including a huge stalled cairn), brochs, a Viking Hall, early farmsteads and a church abandoned when it started to slip into the sea. There were large grey(?) seals crying on the rocks and the usual rich Orkney bird life. This is such a beautiful and fascinating place to be. Oh, and a pipe band rehearsing in Kirkwall, very stirring!
