Cutting down on cake intake .... Hmm ....
Yes, it's not going well, this reduction in cake eating.
Never go into a coffee shop if you didn't have time for breakfast before hand, otherwise you quickly cave in to your inner cake monster and ask for a slice of the largest cake on display, caramel honeycomb in this case.
Shopping done, we decided to walk into the nearby village where there's a '40's weekend going on, including a beer festival. There wasn't much happening when we wandered through, but we did stop by the scouts and guides hall, where there was a bit of a fair going on. We needed refreshment, so had a couple of home made cakes and I had Dandelion & Burdock to wash mine down with. Not sure they had that in the '40's, but it reminds me of my childhood in the '70's.
Back home I quickly made some cakes and wrapped presents as I decided on the spur of the moment to take them over to the farm for " Grandad's " birthday. It's tomorrow but I might not make it over then. He was very pleased with his new calendar ( I make them with all sorts of photos and this time I used some from the '80's - reminiscing over old tractors and ponies! ).
Cheesie chips for tea, followed by cake of course!! Then Alex and his dad arrived by tractor, and Alex told us all about the digger they had taken to his house. They needed a lift home then, so I loaded them into my car with some plants for the garden and delivered them all to Alex's mum. Mary was all ready for bed, snuggled on the sofa watched " The Aristocats ". We all trooped upstairs and I read them a quick story, before leaving them to go to sleep. They were so tired I think they were asleep before I got down stairs.
Then their parents and I got stuck into some gardening and only finished planting the last two plants ( of a selection I'd grown and donated ) as it went dark. I meant to take a picture of the workers, but only managed a quick snap of the sun setting, as seen from their garden. After a coffee and chatting, I got home about 11pm, sorted out the animals and am now in bed, ready for some sleep myself!
