Aperture on Life

Yarrow Plume Moth

I find Plume moths fascinating. They all have very particular and instantly recognisable wings which they keep stretched out from their bodies and make them look like a dried seed head of a grass or a little crucifix. They are mostly active at night but easily disturbed during the day. They are fairly easy to identify as, for the most part, each species larvae have diverse food plants.

This one has been hanging around the Yarrow patch and a quick look identified it as Platyptilia pallidactyla.

Another gloriously hot day! I did a major shop this morning and was glad I left the dogs at home. By the time I got home the thermometer had hit the 29 degree mark. I'm afraid it's going to be another time consuming day for me tomorrow but have an unexpected night off tomorrow...catch up time. Whoop whoop!
