No panic
Well I did when I got Mummy Goose to get up at 6:00am. Found the gosling half out of the shell, still beeping but seemingly weak. Didn't want to force anything but lightly picked up the shell and it slid out by itself. Quickly left to get Mum to start drying and warming the poor thing.
Came back two hours later to find the chick abandoned by the side of the nest and ice cold. Seemed to be dead but literally cupped it closely in my hands and spoke to it as I dashed to the house and filled a hot water bottle.
Well that was the end of my day which was spent with a goose attached to one or another part of my body. Was, as always on such occasions, aided by Flash who is always fascinated by such events - see extra photo.
Gosling, Luna and I slept well in the sitting room tonight - well between all the cuddles most of which seemed to happen somewhere around my neck and half way under a shirt. My lips and ears were constantly being nibbled!
Totally unrelated but heard this today: On Wednesday the central emergency and rescue station west of Munich got a call from BMW's central offices asking emergency help for a crashed BMW with four passengers who were not responding - BMW had got this info from the new automatic "E-Call" emergency system required in new cars under EU rules. So everything sent out to the address, clearly shown on the GPS.
By the time the fire brigade, emergency doctor, ambulance and police arrived it was too late to help the occupants! The vehicle had a full frontal crash with another vehicle. However the data that should be analysed in the next few weeks from the "Crash Test Dummies" should aid in future safety. The crash had been at the German Automobile Crash Test site at Landsberg. They had notified BMW but somehow the message had been lost!!!!
