Eggs

Another entry made last week then as I was about to fit the "publish" button somehow lost the whole thing. So once again abrreviated.

Early off to Memmingen alone, to buy pool chemicals although we use chemicals from the food production business - used to clean machinery, surfaces etc - chlorine and acid.. The company has sadly discovered the "added-value" of labelling the containers with "Pool" but it's still considerably cheaper than normal pool chemicals.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Angie had done a quick foot walk with the dogs before farrier Richard turned up at 9:00 to do the horses. By the time I got home he was finished but we did manage a cup of coffee and a short chat.

Then MrB came by with his neat Eicher vineyard/orchard machine. Moved Luna's dog house to it's shaded summer position and then repositioned the bed of my tipper trailer which had slid out of it's mountings. Took him 5 minutes with the front loader where I would have needed an hour doing it by hand. In return large supply of eggs for the annual visit of the two friends from the Berlin area who spend a week here in a small wooden lodge in the forest.

In the evening did a simple goose check but noticed something a bit different in their behaviour. Closer examination and found a very poorly looking gosling. By the time I had cleared the area of nattering and hissing beaks etc, found the gosling dead. Had long given up thinking any would appear as the brood time was long up. Then tidied up the nest and saw just how many eggs she had been sitting on, most with no chance of hatching. I would normally have now thrown them all away but suddenly heard a beeb, beeb and an egg with a hole. Quickly built a bit of a nest with a few eggs and got Mum back in along with one of the ganders - the other one locked away in solitary for the night. Hope this works.
