Safeguarding training

You’re here to teach me all about
the forms I need to fill,
so OFSTED rates
this college's safeguarding
as outstanding:
all procedures clear,
all boxes ticked, all records
signed and filed.
The most important thing, I know,
is simply that I’m here
and trained.
 
My concern is different.
I care about the students.
I keep my eye on them.
I know the forms
prove nothing.
This is a waste of time but
I don’t want you
labelling me a troublemaker
so I will keep my head down,
do as you tell me.
 
And if we have a test
I’ll pass. In fact
I’ll get outstanding.
I’ve learnt the rules.
I know which boxes I should tick.
 
I’m in this job because
my interest is the students.
