"Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
There is a touch of the Ozymandias about these ubiquitous Roman ruins. We visited the amphitheatre at Arles today, only to find the museum closes on Tuesdays, so we'll return another day to make best use of the multi-site tickets on offer. This photo, though, is of one of the more dilapidated parts of a huge Roman aqueduct, a few miles from Arles, which was part of a network spanning 25 miles. As ever, seeing the sheer scale, and cleverness of the engineering, is awesome.
Lots of lovely wild flowers growing around its old walls, and fabulous views of the surrounding landscape that included rice fields, orchards and olive groves, all topped by super cloudy skies, meant I took way too many photos. I shall pare them down to my favourites. By the time we headed "home" to our rented house, it was raining, and a good deal cooler. We still enjoyed a barbecue under a roofed area outside the house.
