Experimenting
No outdoor pics today so, casting around for something small, I decided to photograph this tiny ornament. From the bottom of the base to the top of its head is 3.5cm (just under 1½ inches). I am often impressed with how close I can get using my Sony DSC-HX90 but never sure just HOW close, so I decided to find out. Of course I could have just focused on a sheet of card or the wall of the kitchen and measured on the worktop how far away the camera was, but I wanted to take something 3D to get an idea of depth of field, hence the ornament. As you can see from the extra (taken with my DSC-HX70) the distance from the front of the lens to the front of the subject is just under 3cm. I think that is quite impressive!. Both images are full frame, exactly as they came off the camera - the only difference is I turned off the overhead cooker light for the extra as it stopped the glare on the ruler.
Experiment over - now bedtime.
