The Dairy, Carry Farm

23.4C bright and hazy. Light breeze.

This morning we drove North to Tarbert and took the 10.15am ferry across to Portavadie so we could spend the day on the Cowal peninsula at Tighnabruaich and Kames. We picked a lovely day for the trip, but unfortunately most of the cafes were closed, out favourites The Barn at Millhouse and The Tearoom in Tighnabruaich included. Even the new restaurant 'Botanica' was closed. The Tighnabruaich Gallery was open though, so we had a look inside. There is always something interesting. Then we took Maeve the Deerhound for a walk along the road by the shore to Port Driseach and the boatyard.

For lunch we went to Duncan's Stores in Kames and got sandwiches. We had them sitting by the shore with a view across to the Isle of Bute. Then we had a wander along to Blair's Ferry. After that we drove along the single track road to Ardlamont stopping at Carry Farm where we had had tea in their Dairy on a previous visit. This time they had the Dairy running as a self service tearoom with an honesty box, so we made a cuppa and sat outside on a shady bench where Maeve could join us and look on as we ate our Lemon Melts (from a bakery on the Isle of Mull).

Back along in Tighnabruaich we had a short walk before heading for the 3.45pm ferry back across to Tarbert. We cut it rather fine and arrived to see the ramp going up on the ferry. To our surprise and delight the skipper spotted us come into the queuing area and lowered the ramp for us. That saved us an hour waiting for the next crossing. We passed on our thanks to the skipper via the cheery crewman who collected the tickets.
