Bennetts Cross, Dartmoor

We were on Stage V of the Two Moors Walk today with our local walking group.  The weather was kind to us with warm temperatures and some sunshine, although visibility was often rather hazy.  We started at Dunstone Down and walked to Chagford Bridge across open moorland with far reaching views of other hills and tors.  On the way we passed a small rather weathered cross (see extras), had coffee in the middle of a Bronze Age (1300BC) settlement named Grimspound also in extras, and then came down by Bennett's Cross which is thought to be 13th Century cross, shown above.

Lunch was taken at the side of a prehistoric double stone row on Hurston ridge.  A day of great walking, many historic relics and a cream tea in Chagford.  A good but long walk of 12 miles.
