DERELICT SUNDAY - ON TUESDAY!

Once again, Mr. HCB was up and out early in the garden, so by 10.00 a.m. when I got up and took him a cup of coffee, he was having a well-earned rest and reading his book.  I asked if he was going to continue in the garden, but he felt it was too hot, so we went out for coffee and cake instead to Three Trees Farm Shop and after that went for a drive round, looking for dereliction.

We had spotted several old stables and farm buildings, and I had taken quite a few photographs, but as we dropped down into Aldbourne, we stopped the car to look at a crumbling old wall that might fit the bill.

A very kind lady in a bright yellow mini pulled up just in front of us, got out and walked back, and asked if we were all right and said she wondered if we were lost.  I explained that I took a photograph every day and we were looking at the wall, whereupon she said that they had been round the old house before it was done up and there was plenty of dereliction there, although all that remained derelict now were some old barns.  She also said that it was surprising to see the large gates open - and with that went on her way.

I walked up to the gates and could see one of the barn she was talking about, and realising that the house was well off to the left, decided to creep in - and was able to take several photographs - I didn’t hang around for long though.

All in all a lovely couple of hours with Mr. HCB - he will be at cricket from mid morning until about 11 tomorrow evening, so it was good to spend some time with him today and especially to enjoy the countryside.

The only downside was that we saw lots of “fly-tipping” in farm gateways and on the sides of the road - I often wonder how the people who leave this stuff would feel if others flung rubbish in their front garden!
