THE HARRIS TWEED
We wended our way to the South tip of Harris at Leverburg today with many scenic stops on the way. There we spotted Angus Campbell who sailed us to St Kilda on our 2009 visit. We're not planning to go there this time but he gave us some names for boat trips to The Shiants which we would like to visit rather than just sail round.
An excellent lunch was enjoyed at the Temple Cafe in Northton, thanks for that Kaybee, and luckily we were early as it became very busy.
Next we turned left for Luskentyre and popped in to see the owners of the last house before the end of the road. This was self-catering accommodation when we stayed there but the owners have since moved from Abredeen to live there and opened it at as a B&B. Which means there are now stairs to the upper floor. That was all blocked off when we stayed.
Then a few yards down the road we went to Donald John MacKay's weaving shed. My blip is of him and Guinness his Border Terrier. Guinness appeared in the shed as their Border Collie had opened the house door and let him out! I found a perfect roll of purple Harris Tweed to back my patchwork cushion cover with. And bought too much so I can make other things as well. Of course!
Now home, and my blips are up to date for once. Extras are Donald's Tweeds and a photo taken in Leverburgh.
