Lazy Wings

I was leaving the work site and unlocking my bike this afternoon when a huge butterfly started flopping from flower to flower a few feet in front of me. It must be that part of the summer when they're fully grown into their glory and it was hot enough to make them fly a little bit slow.

Here is where I confirmed that it's a female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. Mine has less bright blue spots, perhaps because the Sun was not illuminating her wings. Or it might be a closely related species --who knows?

It was good to meet this elegant creature and capture her for my blip.
