Roses Galore

The landscaping along our driveway includes a series of flowers, blooming at various times, but the three rose bushes (just two appear here) are the most spectacular. They've come out over just the past couple of weeks.

We were back on Mt. Holyoke today, to check in on the Cerulean Warbler nestlings. They were more visible today, and we counted three, which you see here. The one on the right of the extra image is dealing with a green caterpillar which he has just received from his dad, while his two siblings clearly hope for more. (I can't identify  the string-like thing hanging from the parent's bill--I doubt that it is food--?)

More on the Ceruleans: They're one of the smallest so-called "wood warblers" (4.75 inches/10 cm), distinctly threatened and uncommon. In the breeding season they migrate to the U.S. (mainly further south and west); relatively few breed in New England, and in Massachusetts perhaps only here.  I posted two other shots yesterday.
