Cerulean Warbler with Nestling
Back to Mt. Holyoke (Skinner State Park in South Hadley) today to have a peek at the cerulean nest. For the first time we saw little ones in the nest, being fed by both parents (after the female sat on the eggs). The main image shows a female, and as the extra image I've posted a male, with a green caterpillar in his bill. They both have blue and white plumage (hence the name), though the blue is dull in the forest shade; his is darker than hers. The images aren't wonderful, due mainly to the distance. We weren't able to count the nestlings--the usual number is four.
