"Magic mirror"
Friday
It was Book Club this afternoon, preceded by lunch at a Japanese/Thai restaurant in Fontainebleau. The home we were meeting at was quite a way out of Fontainebleau, however, so we car-pooled. The weather was somewhat overcast, but still quite warm, so we sat outside on their patio, enjoying their lovely garden. The book we were discussing was Kate Atkinson's A God in ruins. It's a companion book to her Life after Life, though the two books do stand on their own. I hadn't read any of hers before, but I found her writing to be very powerful and thought-provoking, and her characters very well drawn and believable, though not necessarily likeable! However the book did have a very surprising twist right at the end, which catches you unawares!. I definitely plan to read more by her.
When Roger got home, we went out for a walk in the forest near the Tour Denecourt, where I took this shot of the boulder called Le Miroir magique, the magic mirror.
This evening we were watching the opening game in the European Cup, France versus Romania. We knew Laura was also watching - in Bucharest, she was with some of her teacher colleagues, watching it on a big screen in one of the parks. Understandably, she said everyone got very excited when Romania equalized. Even though France went on to win, at least Romania put up a good fight!
