Composition No 2011 - Sir Walter Scott
Not one of my favourite Scottish authors to be honest. But one of the most revered and remembered through his popular novels.
At the time Scott wrote, Scotland was poised to move away from an era of clan warfare to a modern world of literacy and industrial capitalism. Like Orwell (who wrote 1984 on Jura) and Burns, he popularised the politics of the times he lived in.
How many folk can boast a monument on Princes Street plus a couple of ships named after him.
This is the Steam Ship Sir Walter Scott. Circa 1900.
What a pleasure it is to sail on Glasgow's water supply.
