...Ta Da!
Okay, I'm overdosing on crawly things, time to take a break and get back to my first love - hummingbirds! As usual, they were putting on a rousing show when I went out this afternoon. Never mind that I have 10 feeders and lots of nectaring flowers out there - everything is a territory war. You've never seen fiercer birds! There is a lot of infuriated chittering, a fair amount of full body contact, and a bit of brooding and sulking. At odd times, I'll see 3 or 4 calmly sharing a feeder - for about a nanosecond, before someone moves a feather just wrong and a fight breaks out. Endlessly entertaining.
I had such a hard time choosing just one shot today that I decided to put the rest in Folio - Today's Hummingbirds. I've got some shots of the young hummers, both male and female as well as an assortment of fun shots of them doing normal hummer-things. Have a look if you'd like. And, please have a look at Mr. P-Hummie in Flashy Large! This image is untampered with, other than some cropping. Colors by Mother Nature; there is nothing I could do to improve this.
The turkeys also made an appearance today. Two hens appear to be co-parenting a large brood of 16-18 chicks. This is common behavior with wild turkeys, since the males basically breed and leave. The females are very dutiful parents, keeping the brood in line and keeping an eye on each one, making sure no one wanders off. I got a relatively decent shot of one of the young 'uns which I posted on Flickr. The babies are so homely! But cute, too, in their homely way.
Tonight's dinner is grilled pork tenderloin and baby eggplant from the farm, along with a nice tossed salad and a crisp white wine. Cheers!
Thank you for sending Rover to the Spotlight - that was a surprise knowing that spiders aren't universally loved. However, as spiders go, he was a cute one, wasn't he?
Hoping you all have a great Friday!
Post Script...I just realized that I blipped Mr P on this day last year! If you click on the thumbnail, you can see that he and I have both improved with age.
